HOLLYOAKS threw down the gauntlet and invited all and sundry along to the British Film Institute for a good old fashioned grilling. But how did it all go?
CELEBRATING
The British Film Institute have been celebrating 25 years of Channel 4, and invited HOLLYOAKS along to mull over more than a decade of drama from the fictional Chester suburb. After a brief introduction by producer Bryan Kirkwood, the latest episode played out before the panel lined-up on stage.

QUESTIONS
Joining Bryan was Lime Pictures' Creative Director Tony Wood, Emma Rigby (Hannah Ashworth) and Summer Strallen (Summer Shaw). Guardian and Radio Times journalist Gareth McClean kicked off the questions, asking Tony about the changes made to the show since his arrival and his decision to bring Bryan on board to produce.
PROUD
With Gareth's grilling over, the forum was opened up to the floor. Just like Question Time, many of the issues raised were political. Bryan was asked how he felt about John Paul's attitude since Craig's exit. He said that whilst there could have been more 'crying over photo moments', he was 'very proud' of the way the storyline was handled. The Stonewall Award in particular was a standout moment for everybody involved, although Bryan admitted that James Sutton (John Paul McQueen) felt slightly uncomfortable about being thrust into the limelight as 'some kind of uber-gay'.
QUIZZED
The crowd also quizzed the cast. Emma talked at length about how she handled her difficult eating disorder storyline and Summer fielded questions about being the new girl, something she's adapted to quite well, hailing from a 'family in the business'. There were questions about issues, social responsibility and a request for a McQueens spin off show, something not currently in the pipeline.
POSSIBILITES
Tony and Bryan both confirmed that they're now open to the possibility of a late night special, and talked about some interesting scenes coming up with the McQueens on location in Manchester. It wasn't confirmed whether or not this would be part of the forthcoming surrogacy storyline, something due to affect more than a couple of the sisters – watch this space!
PRIVILEGE
Bryan said of the night, "It was a real privilege for the BFI to organize an event recognising the recent rebirth of HOLLYOAKS. It was terrifying at first to face an audience of our viewers, but the event turned out to be a great success. It was a pleasure to debate the show with our fans." Keep an eye out for photos from the night, coming very soon!
